Dear Students,

As you already know, THERE WILL BE NO CLASSES AT THE INSTITUTE THIS WEEK NOR THE NEXT ONE.

On Wednesday 1/7, there will be some material ready at IATEL which you must do during the week and send your answers via e-mail so that I can correct them and send them back. It's very important that you do these activities, not only because they are going to count as homework but also because you are going to have no English classes for about a month and I don't want you to loose what you have achieved so far!

Rosario derby

The Rosario derby ("Clásico Rosarino") is one of the most fiercely contested football rivalries in Argentine football. It is played between the two main teams from Rosario; Newell's Old Boys and Rosario Central. It is widely regarded as the most important Argentine derby outside of Buenos Aires and the Buenos Aires Province.


History

The first Rosario derby was played on June 18, 1905, it resulted in a 1-0 win for Newell's Old Boys with a goal from Faustino González.

The clubs continued to play each other in the "Liga Rosarina de Fútbol" for many years. In 1939 the two clubs were admitted to the Argentine Primera, the first game at this level resulted in a 1-1 draw on June 18, 1939.


Nicknames

The teams nicknames relate from the same incident where Rosario Central refused to play a charity game for a Leprosy charity, hence their nickname Canallas (Scoundrels). Newell's Old Boys stepped in to play the game and earned the nickname Los Leprosos (The Lepers).

Biography of John Lennon

John Winston Ono Lennon,[1][2] MBE (born John Winston Lennon; 9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was an Academy Award-winning English rock musician, singer, and songwriter who gained worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles. Lennon along with Paul McCartney formed one of the most influential and successful songwriting partnerships and "wrote some of the most popular music in rock and roll history".[3] Lennon revealed a rebellious nature and biting wit in his music, on film, in books, and at press conferences and interviews. He was controversial through his work as a peace activist and artist.

After The Beatles, Lennon enjoyed a successful solo career with such acclaimed albums as John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine and iconic songs such as "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine". After a self-imposed "retirement" from 1976 to 1980, Lennon reemerged with a comeback album, Double Fantasy, which would win the 1981 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Less than one month after the release of the album, Lennon was murdered in New York City on 8 December 1980.

In 2002, respondents to a BBC poll on the 100 Greatest Britons voted Lennon into eighth place. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Lennon number 38 on its list of "The Immortals: The Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time" and ranked The Beatles at number one. He was also ranked fifth greatest singer of all time by Rolling Stone in 2009.[4] He was posthumously inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987[5], and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
